Thermal waters are used in a wide range of remise en forme treatments/programs and are used for swimming pools, thermal balneotherapy, respiratory tract affections and, above all, are the basis of the maturation, preservation and regeneration process of thermal mud, unparalleled for its thermo-mineral properties and anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving abilities. In the cosmetic field, thanks to the content of minerals and trace elements, it provides the skin with a moisturising, soothing and restructuring action, acting as a natural antioxidant.
The thermal water of the Euganean Spas originates from the rains that fall on the Little Dolomites and the Pre-Alps, precisely on the Lessini Mountains near Verona, and must flow underground for about 80 km at a depth of 3000 metres before reaching the precious springs (the main thermal springs then flow in the area of Poggio di Montirone in Abano Terme).
During this journey underground, which lasts about 30 years, the waters, thanks to the geothermal gradient and under strong pressure, reach temperatures of 200°C in some places, enriching themselves with some mineral salts (sodium, potassium, magnesium, iodine, bromine and silicon) contained in the rocks through which they flow and then cooling down during the ascent to the ground where they gush out at 87°C.

The waters of the Abano thermal basin belong to the deep groundwater category and are chemically classified as hyperthermal saline-bromine-iodine with a fixed residue at 180° of 6 g/l of dissolved salts. Some studies carried out on this type of water have shown that bromine and iodine-salt waters can be considered a useful remedy against recurrent and chronic rhinosinus pathologies. In this case, the waters are diluted, as their concentration is much higher than necessary. The disinfectant (against bacteria and fungi) and antiseptic action of our thermal waters is also very interesting; their use in various therapies spontaneously resolves certain types of inflammation and offers protection against external and internal pathogens for a certain period of time. The extraordinary therapeutic value of the waters and muds is also due to the strict rules governing thermal extraction, which prevent the indiscriminate use of resources and their depletion.
